Day 8: Improving Gameplay

Hi Friends! 👋

📊 Daily Stand-Up: Yesterday, as the Lead Engineer, we worked on our RAG, (Retrieval Augmented Generation). For those saying what? It’s essentially giving the AI added information upfront so when asked specifically about that information it will reference that added information. We did this in order to improve game play as before we saw the game working properly about 30% of the time and with this change the game started working about 60% of the time. This in our estimation was enough to proceed with building the game out further. However, after we decided to move forward the first thing we wanted to do was get that percentage up if we can…

The problem was our models just weren’t good enough; They frequently gave incorrect answers even with the correct answers provided to them. So we went to the dark side, OpenAI.

With the replacement of our Ollama llama2 AI models we saw the game working closer to 90% of the time. An enormous leap forward all be it with a cost, that we’ll need to account for when pricing our game.

Today we’ll be working on the hardening of our app as if we plan to charge for this. We don’t want things like unstable internet connections, app exits, api request failures, or prompt engineering to ruin players’ experience of the game.
